MTV News Redesign
Role: UX & Visual design
The reimagining for of MTV News experience was part of a larger company strategy including broadcast and social to better meet the needs of a millennial news consumer.
Problem: MTV News was lagging behind in terms of the needs of a millennial news consumer and had a separate mobile and desktop site.
Goal: Make MTV News responsive and grow audience by presenting content where users are consuming it (on their phone).
Impact
The redesign and relaunch of a responsive MTV News site led to a +565% increase in social referrals, +151% site visits and +137% time spent on site.
Understanding our users
I worked with the research team to understand audience behaviors and their needs in addition to learning about the competitive landscape. Early process included a co-design session with users to gain insights into their needs and news consumption habits.
Sketching ideas
I created sketches to evolve ideas and gain consensus with cross-functional partners and stakeholders.
From sketches to code
I created low fidelity html/css prototypes to gain feedback from users and to validate concepts. By working in code instead of Photoshop for final designs, it allowed for more seamless collaboration with the development team.

Beyond the launch
I went on to build out a team of user experience and visual designers working on the overall News product. This product went on to scale and support the editorial needs for other Viacom brands.
